Faculty Librarian - Public Services -- University of Central Arkansas -- Conway, AR
Working as part of the Public Services and Library Systems Team, the Public Services Librarian is responsible for providing in-person and remote reference services and assisting in other front line services, including circulation, interlibrary loan, and technology services to all library users. This person will also supervise and assist with the training of public services staff, create and maintain library research guides and FAQs, utilizing LibGuides, participate in identifying and addressing accessibility issues and reaching under-served communities, and participating in the management of physical library spaces.
Additional duties include working as part of the Education and Outreach Team to provide instruction and information literacy and to participate in library outreach in various venues across campus, including participation in social media activities.
Performs additional duties and special projects as assigned.
The successful candidate will have a strong work ethic, possess a collegial attitude, be dedicated to public service, and understand the evolving role of academic library services in the 21st century. He/she will be technologically savvy, open minded, flexible, and eager to develop new approaches and assess effectiveness. Outstanding interpersonal and customer service skills are essential. The candidate must have a commitment to and/or a clearly articulated philosophy on the role of library services in fostering student success and the impact of library services on student retention. Must have demonstrated the ability to pay attention to detail and to manage time and multiple assignments. Knowledge and understanding of library resources and comfort with technology are essential. Must show a willingness to learn from experienced colleagues. Some weekend and evening hours may be required.
ALA-accredited MLS/MLIS or similar ALA accredited graduate degree. Ability to work with diverse staff in collegial, team environment. Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. Ability to pay attention to detail. Ability to manage time and multiple assignments. Library public service experience, academic library experience, teaching experience, and experience with library systems.
Faculty Librarians at UCA have the right to choose, upon initial appointment, whether to accept tenure track or non-tenure track status. Non-tenure-track library faculty may be appointed and promoted to the ranks of lecturer I, lecturer II, and senior lecturer. Tenured and tenure-track library faculty may be appointed and promoted to the ranks of assistant professor, associate professor, and professor. The applicant’s decision is binding and will be included in their initial letter of appointment. The library associate professor and professor will be required to hold in addition to the terminal degree an additional graduate degree in an academic discipline.
Salary Maximum: $44,000 depending on experience/qualifications.
